At St. Andrew’s, we believe in putting our faith to work by helping others in our Arlington family. We partner with various charities throughout the area, including AFAC, A-SPAN, and APAH. There’s always a way for all ages to be involved.
A-SPAN’s Bagged Meals for the Homeless
In support of Arlington Street Peoples Assistance Network (A-SPAN), once a month we gather in the church kitchen to make sandwiches and prepare bagged meals for those without homes. We then ask for a few of the volunteers to hand out the meals at a local spot, providing an opportunity to see the impact this important outreach has on those in need. All ages are welcome – there’s plenty of opportunity for everyone. For more information contact Marcela Scott at firstname.lastname@example.org.
AFAC’s Non-Perishable Food Collection
Each Sunday we collect non-perishable food, which is brought forward at the Offertory and blessed before being taken to the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC). Needs are great in Arlington for food assistance, and our part is to contribute something of our bounty to help feed the hungry. This is a great way for parents to show children that we thank God for what we have by helping others. The collection baskets are located at both entrances to the sanctuary (in the Narthex, at the back, and in the Lounge, on the side).
Meals on Wheels
Volunteers are always welcome to deliver a hot and a cold meal (prepared by others) to homebound Arlingtonians. Our work through Meals on Wheels allows people to live independently, at home, for as long as possible. For more information contact Janey Cartmell at email@example.com.
The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree
For the Christmas season, St. Andrew’s participates in the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program. Individuals and families become Santa for a local child, shopping for new clothing, gifts and/or toys from the wish lists of Arlington’s most needy families. For more information contact Jen Gowetski at firstname.lastname@example.org.
